The Mermaid Run is turning five this year, and it’s shaping up to be the biggest and best celebration yet! The in-person race will take place at the Fin-tastic Aberdeen Festival Park in Aberdeen, Maryland, on August 24th, 2024, at 8:00 AM. This year’s event is more than just a local fun run—it’s an internationally recognized celebration of mermaid magic, with participants from around the globe. The 5K race will be professionally chip-timed by Blue Cheetah Sports Timing, and all participants will receive a marathon-quality finisher’s medal and event shirt. The course is USATF Certified, fast, and flat—perfect for runners, walkers, and costume enthusiasts alike! Expect music, decorations, and prizes to add to the festive atmosphere.
The 2024 edition of The Mermaid Run promises to be a wave-maker, so grab your fins, apply your glittery scales, and get ready to dive in! Whether you’re joining the in-person 5K, participating in the Mermaid Mile, or running virtually as a MerFriend from anywhere in the world, there’s a spot for everyone.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Sea of Hope Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to offering financial assistance for funeral, cremation, and burial costs, as well as providing emotional support and scholarships for bereaved siblings. The event was created in memory of Ariella, who would have turned six this year, to honor her life and support other families facing similar heartbreak.
The Mermaid Run is a rain-or-shine event, and while no refunds will be offered due to weather or other reasons, participants are guaranteed an unforgettable experience filled with fin-tastic fun and meaningful memories.

Under The Sea Bash
The 2024 Under The Sea Bash will take place at Aberdeen Festival Park in Aberdeen, Maryland, on August 24th, 2024, from 10AM – 2PM. This Fin-tastic event is filled with Real Live Mermaids, Jellyfish on Stilts, Walking Bubbles and Acrobats floating in the Air! Bounce houses, Caricature Artists, Costume Characters such as The Island Princess, food trucks and more to be announced! This family friendly fundraising event is filled with activities for children of all ages.
